Introduction

Our #4 pick for top moisturizers is The Water Cream by Tatcha. One look at its website and you will fall in love with its Japanese inspired story and formulas. The packaging is unique, beautiful and exquisitely feminine. As much as we enjoy the little touches such as its golden spoon to apply the moisturizing cream, it immediately causes us to question how effective this formula really is. We liked that there are specialized ingredients from Japan, however, it is not apparent that these ingredients have been proven to have anti-aging properties or even safe to use. Read more, as we explore this cream to find out if it is something you should spend your money on.

Ingredients

The active ingredients in this product are: Hadasei-3 - Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis, Leaf/Cladosiphon and Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate:

  • Uji Green Tea - Known as the pure Green Tea, this antioxidant-rich botanical is said to prevent signs of premature aging.
  • Okinawa Mozuku Algae - This algae from the tropical islands in Japan contains polysaccharides, for skin water retention and hydration.
  • Akita Rice - This is known as the finest rice in Japan and it is also a protein-filled moisturizer.
There are about 20 more ingredients found in this moisturizing cream. A few examples are ingredients found in most moisturizers, such as Water, Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate. However, there are some which are largely excluded from most moisturizers which we found here. A couple of examples are Parfum/Fragrance and Alcohol. While not especially dangerous for skin, these ingredients may irritate certain skin types and therefore may not be appropriate for those with sensitive or dry skin.

How To Use

Using the golden spoon which comes with the moisturizer, scoop a pearl-sized amount and then massage onto your face, neck and décolletage in upward strokes. For daily use, both morning and night.

Price

One jar of Tatcha’s The Water Cream will cost you $68 for a 50 ml or 1.7 fluid ounce jar. If you would like to try a travel size, there is one available at $20 a piece, however, it is really small at 10 ml or 0.34 fluid ounces. There are no discounts available on bulk orders.

Guarantee

Tatcha claims to put its customers as its highest priority and will offer full refunds on its products if you are not happy for any reason. However, there are caveats attached. It will not accept empty jars or nearly empty jars for returns. It will also not accept partial returns or exchanges for bundle sets. A complete set must be returned in order to receive a refund.

Conclusion

What Tatcha appears to selling is the beauty of Japanese culture. We do believe this cream has hydration properties and like that its three active ingredients are natural and nourishing. However, there are no clinical studies proving that these ingredients will work to give you anti-aging effects or that they are even safe to use. What is unclear is how much the cost reflects the quality of what’s inside the jar or is actually the jar itself. Will it keep your face hydrated? Most probably. Will it cause your cells to produce collagen and fill in wrinkles? It doesn’t seem like it. Will it cause your skin to redden or break out? Perhaps if you are sensitive to some of its inactive ingredients. The bottom line is that it appears to be a good basic moisturizing cream with luxurious packaging. If that is worth your money, then have at it!
